👩‍🏫 What are regular -AR verbs?

In Spanish, many verbs end with -ar in their infinitive form, like hablar (to speak), bailar (to dance), and estudiar (to study).
These verbs follow a regular conjugation pattern in the present tense.

✨ How to conjugate regular -AR verbs in present tense

  1. Remove the -ar ending from the infinitive → habl-

  2. Add the correct ending for each subject:

Subject PronounEndingExample: hablar (to speak)
yo-ohablo
-ashablas
él/ella/usted-ahabla
nosotros/as-amoshablamos
vosotros/as-áishabláis (used in Spain)
ellos/ellas/ustedes-anhablan

💡 Examples:

  • Yo hablo español. (I speak Spanish.)

  • Tú bailas salsa. (You dance salsa.)

  • Ella estudia mucho. (She studies a lot.)

  • Nosotros cantamos en la fiesta. (We sing at the party.)

💞 Cultural Connection

In Colombia, music and dance are part of daily life. Many verbs like bailar (to dance) and cantar (to sing) are regular -AR verbs. Learning these helps you talk about joyful cultural experiences!

📝 Practice time

  1. Conjugate the verb estudiar (to study) for all subject pronouns.

  2. Write sentences with these verbs: trabajar (to work), cantar (to sing), escuchar (to listen).

  3. Translate to Spanish:

    • We speak Spanish.

    • They dance very well.

    • I work every day.

🌟 Tip from Teacher Laura 🍊

Practice these endings with verbs you use every day. Think about your own routine and make simple sentences: yo estudio, tú trabajas, ella canta. This builds a strong foundation for fluency.
