👩‍🏫 What are subject pronouns?

Subject pronouns are words that replace the subject of the sentence (the person doing the action).
In English: I, you, he, she, we, they…
In Spanish: yo, tú, él, ella, nosotros… — but they also show gender and formality!

💞 Cultural Connection

In Colombia, respect and closeness are very important. We often use usted even with family, to show affection and respect.
Example:

  • ¿Cómo está usted, abuela?
Using pronouns properly helps you connect deeply with people — which is part of the magic of speaking Spanish.

📝 Practice time

  1. Match the Spanish pronoun to the English one:

    • yo → __________

    • ustedes → __________

    • ella → __________

    • nosotros → __________

  2. Fill in the blanks:

    • _____ vivo en Bogotá. (I)

    • ¿_____ eres de México? (you – informal)

    • _____ son mis amigos. (they – masculine)

    • _____ estudiamos juntos. (we – feminine)

  3. Translate into Spanish:

    • She speaks English. → ______________________

    • We are happy. → ______________________

    • You all are friends. → ______________________

    • I am tired. → ______________________

🌟 Tip from Teacher Laura 🍊

Start using pronouns in daily phrases. Instead of just “hablo español,” say “yo hablo español.” Practice with people around you: tú eres mi amigo, ella es simpática. This helps you think in Spanish — and feel more confident.
